A community of people who are responding to God's love in the life, death, resurrection of Jesus and wish to share this journey with others. Our calling is to:

  • to respond to human need and challenge injustice
  • to help people develop and explore their understanding of Jesus Christ
  • to offer support and care to each other

We value:

  • WORSHIP...Celebration, regret, hope, healing
  • CREATION...the gifts of God in everyone
  • INTEGRITY...an open, honest, and balanced exploration of what trust in Jesus Christ means for today at each stageof our life
  • BELONGING...welcome, hospitality, friendship, generosity of spirit, use of our own gifts and experience
  • CHALLENGE...exploring new ideas, deepening our spiritual life, sharing faith, facing today's issues and questions
  • TRADITION...discovered in the wider Church including the Baptist way
  • ACTION...Working alongside people concerned for our city-life and world-wide need

There has been a Baptist Church in the centre of Bath since 1752, the Sanctuary in Manvers street being built in 1872. The associated buildings were built in 1907 -1908. The Sanctuary and associated building were classified as being of special architectural or historic interest in 1999 and were designed as a Grade 2 listed building by the Secretary of State for culture.
The church is self financing, relying on free will offerings of its members and also income from the renting of premises to a wide variety of organisations. Throughout the year nearly one hundred organisations use these premises.

The church releases about 25% of its offertory income to outreach organizations including the Baptist Missionary Society World Mission and Home Mission.

The Officers of the church comprise of the Minister, the Secretary and The Treasurer. They meet monthly and report to the Church Meeting and Deacons. The church being in the heart of the City Centre is not situated in a living community and its members travel from other parts of the city and beyond. The church has links abroad Romania (St. Lawrence Children's Hospital) and South Africa (Church of the Resurrection, Watville and Sister Meg.)

The construction and operation of the Open House Centre in 1993 was a significant decision for the Church, opening the buildings daily for a wide variety of purposes. The main factors influencing the operation of the centre was to offer friendship, and facilities to the lonely, elderly and young people and children. The operation of the Open House Centre requires the time of many volunteers drawn from within this fellowship and beyond as well as providing assistance and encouragement to those with special needs, language and other vocations.

There is also a church archivist Revd. Eric Chandler who can also provide historical information and can be contacted Tel: 01225 461600 or lynne_office@btconnect.com

The church also has an Administrator, Team Secretary and a Caretaker.

See Ministers and Staff for more details.
